Barfi:
Truly said love
has no language. Barfi a very captivating movie shows how silence is so
expressive. An eccentric story of a deaf
and mute man and an autistic girl, told without any background music like the
traditional Chaplin and Raj Kapoor movies.
Anurag Basu’s
Barfi depicts the character of Barfi (originally named Murphy by his parents)
who being impaired of speech and hearing, lives a happy go lucky life with
adventure, love and humour. Ranbir Kapoor brings the Chaplinesque aura to the
character of Barfi, who is a simple and innocent hearted man living in
Darjeeling with his ageing father. South Indian actress Illeana D’Cruz plays Shruti
, the rich girl falling in love with a simple poor guy Barfi in spite of being
engaged to a wealthy man from Kolkata. However, as material comforts dominate
her brief romance, she chooses to marry the moneyed man over Barfi.
Priyanka Chopra steals
the show with a brilliant performance as an autistic girl Jhilmil, belonging to
a wealthy family who fail to understand her sensitivity. Meanwhile, Barfi tries overcoming his love
and getting money for the treatment of his father who is battling kidney
failure. Being helpless, he tries to rob a bank but fails and then ends up
kidnapping Jhilmil for money. As Barfi and Jhilmil are together they realise
how they are perfect for each other in spite of their physical imperfections.
Moreover, Shruti after 6 years of marriage realises that she still has strong
feelings for Barfi.
Ranbir and
Priyanka with their remarkable performances prove themselves as the best actors
of their generation and Ileana D'Cruz gives an admirable performance making the
most of her character.
Barfi comes as a
masterpiece with a warm yet humorous story, splendid cinematography, soulful
songs and a sweet treat for the audience.
